19th-century Antique Bone Bobbin with spiral inscription and spangle (our ref W11)

£55.00

A 19th-century midlands lace bobbin hand-turned from bone with a spiral inscription ‘MARGARET SOPHIA COX GIFT 1836’.

The head and tail are complete with no chips or defects, and the overall condition is commensurate with its age. It has an antique spangle. We do not add or change spangles on antique bobbins, and so this is the spangle the bobbin had when it came to us.

This bobbin was made by Jesse Compton. It was identified using the guide in the book 'Success to the Lace Pillow' by Christine and David Springett.

The bobbin measures 95mm long (excluding spangle) and c.5.5mm in diameter (widest section).
